Death Knight Leveling Guide:The Difficulties of Leveling Your Death Knight

Okay, the first thing everyone needs to understand about a Death Knight leveling guide is it needs to revolve around more than going from level 55 to 58.  People spend so much time talking about the main quests, they forget how difficult it is to level up afterward.  The truth of the matter is your DK becomes like every other class on their way to level 80.

Just to give you a little overview of what to look for when leveling a Death Knight — I want you to stick with the rotating quests.  For instance, once you’re in Stormwind and speak with the King, then to Mathias with the SI: group, you will head towards EPL and WPL (Eastern and Western Plaguelands).  You can grab a bunch of quests here, but they won’t be available right from the get go.

You’ll figure that out as you go along, but in order to take care of these in a timely fashion I want you to focus on a few things during your adventure.  Just using three approaches can take you from 58 to 80 in a matter of days.  Keep in mind this is actually /played time and not three different days you login to your account!

Know Your Death Knight

I will be the first one to tell you that when you don’t know what your class does, it makes it more difficult to use it.  If you’re in a fight simply hitting spells, not understanding what they do, then the time it takes you to complete specific quests will be much longer then normal.  So spend ten or fifteen minutes going over your Spells and Abilities to try and figure out how things work — what ability goes with what? Which spell is best used first? You get the idea.

Set Up the Right Talents

Once you’ve learned all about the spells you’ve been trained in up to this point, it’s always a good idea to maximize their power in the talent trees.  In order to do this it’s imperative to take a different approach to your DK build then you would with a regular class.  I recommend boosting the abilities of the spells you already have and then go from there.  The end result will be faster questing because you’ve matched up your talents with your current ability set. Don’t go middle of the road here. Plough most points into one talent tree and perhaps a third into another!

The Finishing Touch

A friend of mine passed along a little information regarding a leveling Death Knights that I thought you would like to read.  When he first created a DK, there was a ton of people in Death’s Breach trying to complete the Death Knight quests.  After awhile, they decided to join each other (6 in all) and quest together.  He said it was the fastest he had ever reached level 80.

However, they DID specify times they would be on so they could catch up regularly to quest together.  If you can do this and get a well put together DK build, then you will soon find yourself leveling up pretty fast.  Then again, if you’re the one who likes to do it solo, it will be important to know what you can and can’t do within the World of Warcraft game.

Just as a quick example, many players have found their fastest leveling comes when they complete quests that are 2 levels below them. Don’t take this advice lightly! Give it a try and you’ll soon understand the power of this little known fact.

This means you’ll want to keep away from orange or red quests, and stick to stuff that you BREEZE through easily. It can be a little tricky as a new Death Knight, since you start with so many levels behind you – but you’ll get there!
