If you don’t already own Zygor’s guide, you might ask, whats so great about this guide?

And if you own another guide, or are weighing up this guide against another, I’ll try help you too.

So lets start with a brief run down of guide features:

• This is an in-game guide (the industry standard right now), so you don’t need to leave WoW to use it.
• Zygor’s guide shows you where to go, what quests to do, and in what order. It’ll skip hard to do, long, or difficult quests that aren’t worth the exp.
• Saves you time by pointing where to go with a directional arrow, and by telling you only what you need to do to complete a quest quickly.
• Will tell you ahead of time when you need to pick up quest items, so you can complete quests as soon as you accept them in some cases.
• Offers the most user friendly and good looking guide window in the leveling guide market.
• Has a brand new in-game talent guide that tells you exactly where to put your talents for fast leveling (I love this feature).

So thats the guts of it.

A lot of guides on the market are “okay”, and seriously they will help you a lot leveling fast. But having used most of them, I generally recommend Zygor’s guide as being the best out there.

The only time I can really be swayed by that viewpoint is for people who want profession, pvp and gold making information. In which case I usually point them to Dugi’s Ultimate WoW guide.

Zygor’s however, is really the best in the market for players who only want leveling info with no frills.

I often tell people Zygor’s guides are so well polished and easy to use they’d be the only guide you’d see with a real store, rather than just a 1 page web site with no real substance to it.

Zygor has a very active forum, active (PAID) forum staff, and of course 24 hour support for people that have problems with the guide.

Since I play TONS of games online, I’ve actually had my girlfriend (who is a WoW noob relatively speaking) to check out Zygor’s guide, and she finds it very easy to use. She’s actually been using it for about 6 months now and she loves it.

The guide definitely isn’t just for seasoned WoW players (probably the exact opposite), and any level of player can pick it up thanks to the little tool tip pop-ups Zygor has in the game to help you get started.

I’m doing Dugi’s bio first because his guide is one of my favorites — I use his gold and profession info daily, not to mention his excellent slim line in-game leveling guide.

Dugi has been playing WoW since it was released, and has since clocked up thousands of hours of game time. Dugi is actually a New Zealander, and got into leveling guides when friends of his asked him for guidance on where to level the fastest.

Fast forward 4 years and Dugi’s leveling guide advice to friends has now become a fully fledged in-game guide and series of ebooks.

Dugi is one of the few guide owners I know that can boast not only knowledge about leveling, but also gold making and PvP. In fact, Dugi has the awesome “Warlord” title for his PvP abilities, something he is constantly quizzed on by new players.

Dugi’s Guide

Dave has put a lot of work into his leveling guides over the years, constantly updating and revising it to ensure players have the best guide at their fingertips.

Only recently though, Dugi made a major revision to the way his guide worked, making it a lot simpler to use, and making it take up much less screen real estate. All you see now is the arrow that points you where to go, and a slim line window that tells you what to do when you get there.

Dugi has had a bit of help along the way – as you can imagine WoW is a huge game world, and he’s often enlisted the help of his wife, sister, and a core group of pro WoW gamers who provide both hands on support as well as a sounding board for Dugi’s ideas.

Dugi Hates…

While Dave is a really upbeat guy, we have a shared hate in the constant “warring” over leveling times. One guide will say, “we level you to 80 in 7 days”, and then the next day, another owner comes along as says, “Yo! Our guide will level you to 80 in 6 days!”, and so it continues.

We “hate” the whole “who is fastest routine” because not all gamers are equal… but mainly because these times author’s are putting out are actually /played time at super optimized speeds.

Just a friendly warning from us both: when you see 7 days, it means /played time, not, log in for a few hours a day and by the weekend you’ll be 80!

As you’ll see at www.ultimatewowguide.com, Dave’s guides follow a set formula he created which he (and many fans) beleive is the optimal way to get around in WoW.

Just briefly, the formula says, level first, get gold second, and then dominate PvP (if that’s your thing…!).

I totally support Dugi’s idea here, as even for things like professions, gathering herbs, ore, or even skinning can slow you down a lot if you’re just trying to level fast. The same is true with gold.

The game will supply you with everything you need until level 70 or 80, and then you’re going to start needing high quality gear and professions to help you in the tough spots.

Following Dugi’s system here will save you tons of time, even if you don’t want a leveling guide.

What’s next for Dugi?

Dave has actually already done the “whats next” in a way. What I mean is, Dugi thought, “what do players do next after they reach level 80? Whats next?

That question basically led him to create a Dailies guide for players in Northrend…

This guide is great if you’ve reached 80, and if all you want to do is get better gear, reputation, or mounts, you can do 25 dailies in under 2 hours.

Today’s WoW leveling guide comparison is between arguably the two of the best known and top selling guides on the ‘net, John “Zygor” Cook, and Joana/Mancow.

Having used both guides extensively, I’ve listed below the main differences between them so that you can make an informed choice on which guide is better for you. I’ll finish up with my own personal recommendation for those still on the fence.

Contender #1:
John “Zygor” Cook

• Horde and Alliance Guides Available
• Any Class, Any Race
• Claims the World Record Leveling Speed to 80 (under 7 days)
• Automated Smart Guide Progresses As it Senses Completed Quests
• In-depth Fast Leveling Talent Guide For Every Class
• Class Quests For Every Class
• Community Forums
• Better Value

Those are the major differences or points where Zygor wins out over Joana, in my experience.

My latest character I’m leveling (an Undead Warrior) has only had one class quest so far to complete, but I know from experience with a Druid and Shaman that Zygor’s class quest guide saves me time for any class with lots of required class quests (Warlocks are another good example).

The automation features are also hard to pass up, rather than having to click a next/previous button, the guide senses you’ve accepted a quest, or collected that last quest item, and the leveling guide arrow snaps to a new heading, and the guide progresses on its own.

The community forums are also a good safety blanket — unlike some guides, Zygor lets his customers post freely on the forums about his guides, which says a lot in my book (he has nothing to hide). Zygor also has support staff which help run his forums and answer support questions.

Contender #2:
Joana/Mancow

• Horde Only
• Any Horde Class/Race, But Extra Good for Hunters
• Precise Hunter Builds for Fast Leveling
• Key Bindings, Addons, And Macros That Joana Recommends
• Full Video Recordings of How to Complete Quests
• Neat Tips and Tricks for soloing Hard or Complex Quests
• More Expensive, Especially the 70-80 Upgrade

So those are Joana’s “win” points – as you can probably see, Joana uses the Hunter class a lot to work out new quest routes, and has some excellent insight on how to power level in WoW using one.

I have however used the guide without a Hunter, and its generally fine without one. Now and again you will run into a quest (like, maybe once per 10 levels) where you have to kill an orange, but its just too difficult without a pet. Players power leveling alts will probably find them pretty easy if they have good gear, however.

The thing that struck me the most about Joana’s guide was the personal touches and advice Joana gives. For difficult quests you get an entire video showing how best to complete it, as well as written advice and tactics on how to level faster. Zygor just says – go here, go there… but Joana’s slant is to give you tips and info which will help you complete harder quests.

So Who Should Buy What?

For the following reasons, I recommend that people flipping a coin over these two guides take Zygor’s guide, unless they’re a Horde Hunter.

1. Automatic in-game guide,

2. Significantly cheaper,

3. Class quest guides.

While these might not seem like major points, when we’re talking about two of the best guides online there’s seriously just not that much in it.

The automatic in-game guide from Zygor is a major win point for me, I feel like I’m managing clicking and fiddling with enough stuff already.

The price difference at time of writing is $27 US dollars cheaper for Zygor.

Class quest guides (that automatically “fire” at the right time, for the right class, by the way) will save you lots of time and headaches.

Today we’re looking at the differences between two very similar guides – Dugi’s Ultimate WoW Guide, and Nyhm’s Warcraft Guides.

How are they similar? Simply, they both offer excellent package deals of gold, PvP info and profession leveling, and they both offer leveling guides.

A Different Format

The Nyhm V Dugi Showdown is a special case, therefore if you’re used to my “contender #1, contender #2″ format, sorry – but there just aren’t enough differences here. There is one big difference, and a few minor, so let me get stuck in.

Both of today’s showdown authors have some excellent content to assist you in your leveling endeavors. You can get gold to gear up better, PvP guides to learn how to dominate battlegrounds, and you can get profession info that tells you the cheapest way to level up your skills.

The prices between authors are fairly similar when it comes to buying JUST a leveling guide, or just gold, pvp, or profession info alone, but when the leveling guide “super bundles” are compared (they contain EVERYTHING in one pack), Nyhm is quite a bit cheaper (depending on what bundle you go for).

Before you rush off and buy Nyhm’s guide – here’s the big difference I told you about.

Dugi’s guide has without question the better in-game leveling guide. You will pay more to get Dugi’s all in one guide (and both “all in one bundles” are very comparable in quality), but there is a big difference in guide quality.

Nyhm uses a combination of in-game guide and html based guides to help you around World of Warcraft fast. Its an okay arrangement, but its a bit clunky and not very user friendly – especially when you’re going across zones.

Dugi uses a custom programmed in-game guide which automatically detects quest completion and steps you from objective to objective as you go about your questing. The guide is also very slim line and doesn’t get in the way of your view. Both guides use a directional arrow to point you towards the next quest.

Winner:  Dugi’s “Ultimate World of Warcraft Guide”

I don’t usually call hands down winners for my showdowns – but if you want an excellent leveling guide and not just gold and PvP info, Dugi has the better guide. If you only want gold, professions, and PvP info? Either guide is a good buy!

Summation:

• Value – You Pay More With Dugi, But His In-Game Guide is Plain Better. No questions asked.
• Bundle Packs for Gold, Professions, and PvP Available And Are Similar Quality.
  
• Both Guides Have Fast Leveling Routes, Which Are Well Optimized.
• Dugi’s In-Game Guide is Automated and Easy To Use, Nyhm’s is a Combination of In-Game and .pdf/html Leveling Guides – Not Easy.
• Both Guides Have Horde and Alliance Guides, and are WOTLK Compatible.

Short Joana Vs Dugi Review:

Joanas’s 1-80 Horde Leveling Guide takes the speed victory in this faceoff. The fact that Joana specialises in Horde leveling routes means you can be safe in the knowledge that you’re going to level fast. You’ll clearly need to be a Horde only player to enjoy this guide. If you have Alliance toons too (shame on you!!) then you might want to choose another guide to remain familiar with the way the guide works across both accounts.

Joana also caters to people who want to use html and printable versions of his 1-80 leveling guide, but of course he also has the in-game leveling guide as standard.

So Should You Buy Joana’s Guide Or Go With Dugi?
If you ONLY want a leveling guide for Horde, and are ok with a retro user interface, Joana’s Guide is a great buy, if slightly expensive. Joana is one of the most experienced guide owners in the leveling guide market, and has been playing WoW and optimizing his routes for a long time.

I personally have to call Dugi’s Ultimate WoW Guide the better choice here. His guide is automated, which makes it very fast, and quite a bit cheaper too. He has an extra gold guide which I always recommend his customers pick up — once you hit 80 you’re generally utterly BROKE, so gold is the next step anyway.

I’ll never recommend that one guide is better than the rest – I think that’s nonsense…

Every guide that I recommend here has its own particular strengths and weaknesses, and that’s why I’m bringing this leveling guide showdown series out to play!

So the question I hope to help you answer is, “which guide is best for you?”

If you’re certain that you want more than leveling, you also want gold, or PvP, or profession info… then I recommend Dave Farrel’s excellent Ultimate WoW guide.

Dave’s guide is easy to use and is on par with the rest of the guides here for leveling speed, but you can save a lot of money if you want to bundle his guide with other gold or pvp information.

The Full Review

Zygor’s guides are one of my favorite, and lately I find myself using them more than most. Why? Simply because I can jump into WoW, and Zygor’s guide takes me automatically to where I left off (no finding my place in the guide), and then I can knock out an hour of leveling and feel like I’ve made some progress.

Lets get into the details…

First up, installation:

Like all professional guide owners, Zygor has made certain that a wide audience of players can enjoy his guide. Unless you find it hard to switch your pc on in the morning, Zygor’s quick install guide will have you up and running in moments by way of detailed web site instructions complete with detailed how to instructions and screenshots. If you still have issues, Zygor has dedicated support staff on his forums to help you.

Secondly, introduction & orientation:

Not much to say here, Zygor’s guides find your place for you, but Zygor recommends when you start that you hit the previous button a bunch of times and pick up a position in the guide which is 2 levels below you. This ensures you get all the really juicy, big experience multi step quests, and all the other minor quest requirements.  While you might think this is doing it the slow way, believe it or not Zygor’s forum actually has tips posted by players saying the fastest way to go with Zygor’s guides (or any guide) is to play the quests from 2 levels above them.

This is widely known in pro circles as the “sweet spot”, and during the 10 levels I went through with Zygor’s guides I was generally 1 level above the suggestion spot in the guide, and I felt like I was going along really nicely.

Third up, how does the guide play?

Super. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Zygor’s guides are so easy its easy to jump in for 15 minutes, 30 minutes, an hour, and clear out a bunch of quests. Zygor’s guides automatically track where you’re up to, and remember it for when you log in next so you can pick up immediately where you left off.

Zygor’s guides also look really pretty, and blend seamlessly into Blizzard’s existing graphics and user interface… so no screwing your nose up at any ugly bars and garish graphics here.

Apart from that, Zygor’s routes are highly and rigorously optimized. At one stage I was told to pick up 4 ingredients from the auction house BEFORE a quest even started (I had no idea why I was picking them up, but I did), and when I did get to the quest, I got an easy 8k+ experience in all of 5 seconds.

All of Zygor’s directions are handled by an easy to follow waypoint arrow. Every time you need to find something, or someone, the arrow shows you where to go within the millimeter.

Do I know if you really can get to level 80 in 7 days /played? No. I haven’t used the guide from level 1 all the way though to level 80. Unfortunately I review many guides, and going from 1-80 with every guide is just not possible with the time I have.

I can make an educated guess though after using the guide for TEN levels of play time, that it is one of, if not the fastest guide you’ll find online today.

Conclusion & final score.

Definitely one of my favorite guides – only loses half a point for a bit of difficulty in setting up when you start using the guide (because you may need to change location in the game world, or backtrack to start a lower level quest chain).

The only thing you lack when you own Zygor’s guide is an accompanying gold guide!

Get Zygor’s Guide today and never look back.
